- The breed totals reported here do not reflect purebred status.
Comments about the Standard Schnauzer
I find it hard to believe there are 4000STANDARD Schnauzers and only 600 Miniatures in the county. Could these numbers be interposed? There is just no way that there are >6 times as many standards as miniatures. The mini is somewhat common while the standard is quite unusual.

Hey Carl, thanks for the input.
I don't think we switched any numbers around, but one of the big challenges of pulling the database together was cleaning up the data provided by the government.
The information that's available is limited to whatever is written on the registration form, and there aren't many controls on what people can write in there. Considering that, you can guess how many variations on the spelling of dachshund or Labrador retriever turn up.
A decision I made when preparing the data was to consolidate all of the records listed simply as "schnauzers" under the standard label, and only those that included some indication of "miniature" as the smaller variety. That's a debatable decision, and perhaps ultimately a mistake. Do you think it would improve things if I lumped both groups together under the a broader generic label. Maybe just "schnauzer" for both?
