Music: North side of the 7000 block of Hollywood Boulevard
Actor | Musician | Songwriter
Born Oct. 23, 1956 in Pikeville, KY

Although Dwight Yoakam has proved adept with a variety of roots and rock genres, his style drew much from the honky-tonkin' Bakersfield sound that his close friend Buck Owens pioneered.

''I've always said I was born in Kentucky and raised in Ohio, but grew up in California,'' said Dwight Yoakam with a twang that more than 25 years of California living has done little to erase.

Drawn to L.A. in 1977 by a country-rock scene that included Clarence White, the Byrds, Gram Parsons, the Flying Burrito Brothers and the Eagles, Yoakam embarked on a career that has included two Grammys and numerous nominations.

He also has drawn notice in Hollywood for his acting, particularly for his performances in "Sling Blade" (1996) and "Panic Room" (2002).
