Died Oct. 6, 1981 of breast cancer in St. Vincent's Hospital, NY

Academy Award-winning actress Gloria Grahame was best known for her appearance in the film "It's a Wonderful Life."

Although Grahame, a sultry blond, is remembered as Violet Bick in Frank Capra's sentimental comedy, it was for a 1952 film — a melodrama about Hollywood called "The Bad and the Beautiful"— that she won an Academy Award for supporting actress.

Grahame's motion picture credits include "Blonde Fever," "Without Love," "The Good Die Young," "Merton of the Movies," "The Big Heat," "The Man Who Never Was," "Macao" and "Song of the Thin Man."
