Actress-singer Jane Froman's heroic comeback from plane-crash injuries was portrayed in the 1952 film "With a Song in My Heart."
The big band singer was seriously injured in a plane crash in Lisbon, Portugal, while on a USO tour in 1943.
Froman came to Hollywood after touring as a vocalist with the Paul Whiteman and Lennie Hayton bands.
She made three films: "Kissing Time," "Stars Over Broadway" and "Radio City Revels." In 1938, she returned to radio. A stutter she conquered while rehabilitating from the plane crash ended her film career.
In the early 1950s she hosted her own television show, a musical variety show that was on the air from 1952 to 1955.
She retired to Columbia, Mo., in the early 1960s.
