Jeff Bridges

Born Dec. 4, 1949 in Los Angeles, CA

After his Oscar-nominated role as popular townie Duane Jackson in 1971’s “The Last Picture Show,” Jeff Bridges became one of the big-screen’s most welcome and consistent presences.

Bridges’ early screen credits include John Huston’s “Fat City,” “The Last American Hero,” “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot” (second Oscar nomination), the 1976 “King Kong” remake, the notoriously budget-busting “Heaven’s Gate” and the sci-fi thriller “Tron.”

The actor earned his third Academy Award nomination playing a soulful alien in 1984’s “Starman.” He also starred that year in the sexy and noirish “Against All Odds.” He followed that decade in such films as “Jagged Edge,” “The Morning After,” “Tucker: The Man and His Dream” and “The Fabulous Baker Boys,” in which he notably costarred with his brother, Beau.

The 1990s saw Bridges in an eclectic mix of film roles — including a radio “shock jock” in “The Fisher King” and a plane crash survivor in “Fearless,” an intellectual math professor in “The Mirror Has Two Faces” and, one of his most beloved parts, slacker-bowler “The Dude” in the Coen brothers’ “The Big Lebowski.”

Bridges kicked off the 2000s earning his fourth Oscar nomination playing a U.S. president in “The Contender,” followed that decade with successful roles in “Seabiscuit,” “The Door in the Floor” and the mega-hit “Iron Man” (as the evil Obadiah Stane).

In 2009, he hit a career high playing hard-luck country singer “Bad” Blake in the acclaimed “Crazy Heart,” which earned the veteran actor his fifth Academy Award nomination and first win, as well as Golden Globe (first win, fourth nomination) and Screen Actors Guild awards.

Bridges, an accomplished singer and photographer, has been married to his wife, Susan, since 1977. They have three daughters.
