John Boles was a singing star of the Broadway stage and in Hollywood movies in the 1920s and 1930s.
He was playing in "Kitty Kisses," a Broadway musical, in 1926 when screen star Gloria Swanson chose him as her leading man in "Lovers of Sunya."
That break opened Hollywood doors for Boles. He worked in 36 productions, appearing opposite Irene Dunne in the 1936 production of "Back Street."
Early in the sound film era he scored successes in "The Desert Song" and "Rio Rita."
