Kim Basinger

Born Dec. 8, 1953 in Athens, GA

Kim Basinger was a beauty queen, top model and cover girl before turning to acting.

Basinger’s breakout role as a Bond girl in 1983’s 007 adventure “Never Say Never Again” — supported by her nude layout for Playboy — led to a series of big screen roles tailored to her lush good looks. They included a Golden Globe-nominated supporting turn in “The Natural,” the erotic drama “9 1/2 Weeks” with Mickey Rourke and the megahit “Batman,” in which she played reporter Vicki Vale.

Basinger met future husband Alec Baldwin when they costarred in 1990’s “The Marrying Man.” The pair wed in 1993 but their tempestuous marriage ended in divorce nine years later. A high-profile custody battle for their daughter Ireland ensued.

The notoriously shy actress, who once bought and sold an entire Georgia town, struck gold in 1997 with her supporting role in “L.A. Confidential,” for which she won the Academy Award as well as Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards.

Basinger has since appeared in various studio and independent films, most notably playing rapper Eminem’s alcoholic mother in 2002’s “8 Mile.”
