For more than 20 years, Kyra Sedgwick acted regularly — and notably — in many feature films (“Born on the Fourth of July” in 1989; “Phenomenon,” 1996; “Secondhand Lions,” 2003) and TV movies (“Miss Rose White,” 1992; “Door to Door,” 2002). But it wasn’t until 2005, when she began starring in the hit TNT series “The Closer,” that the actress truly hit her critical and commercial stride.
The acclaimed crime drama, in which Sedgwick plays tough-minded Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, has earned the actress five Golden Globe nominations (with a win in 2007), four Emmy nominations and nine (individual and ensemble) Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.
Sedgwick has occasionally acted with husband Kevin Bacon, who also directed her in the TV movie “Losing Chase” (1996), the feature “Loverboy” (2005) and in several episodes of “The Closer.”
