Born Jan. 25, 1905 in Portland, OR
Died Dec. 26, 1990 in Los Angeles, CA

Portland Hoffa was best known as the stage and radio partner of her husband, Fred Allen.

She was an established vaudeville and Broadway dancer and performer. She met Allen when they were both performing in "The Passing Show of 1922."

Portland Hoffa — or, in other words, Mrs. Fred Allen — was the comedian's leading lady both at home and in front of the microphone. Her lilting, "Oh, Mr. Allen," and his nasal, "Naow, Portland," were stock phrases in many of their broadcasts.
