Ricardo Cortez used his Latin-type good looks to move from waiter to dancer and then to romantic leads in both silent and talking pictures.
His career peaked in 1934 when he danced the Gaucho with Delores Del Rio in "Wonder Bar," causing female hearts to beat tango time across America.
After his film career ended, Cortez became a New York stock broker and collected film stories. His brother was cinematographer Stanley Cortez.
Born Jacob Krantz to a Jewish butcher in New York City, Cortez played Latin roles throughout his career.
