Richard Dix was the square-jawed hero of 218 motion pictures.
For a quarter-century, Dix personified the virile outdoorsman in daring exploits on stage and screen.
A direct descendant of John Brimmer and Elizabeth Manchester, who crossed the Atlantic on the Mayflower, Dix was nominated for a best actor Academy Award for his performance in 1931's "Cimarron." The statuette went to Lionel Barrymore.
