Ward Bond

Born April 3, 1903 in Bendleman, NE
Died Nov. 5, 1960 of heart attack in Dallas, TX

Ward Bond was first spotted by director John Ford on the gridiron practice field at the University of Southern California where he played football with John Wayne. He made his first screen appearance in "Salute" while he was still in college.

A veteran of motion pictures and star of the television series "Wagon Train," Bond played supporting roles in dozens of movies with his close friend Wayne.

Bond died in a hotel room in Dallas where he had traveled to make a personal appearance at the Cotton Bowl for a game between the Rams and Cowboys.

    I never met the man and l have read that he was not the easiest person to get along with. What l do know though is he was in movies for a long time and always put in a decent performance. "The Searchers" is one movie that comes to mind in which he stood out but there were many more. Yes,he deserves his star
