Died March 18, 2010 at 6:02 p.m.
Adrian Steele, a 25-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, March 18, in the 1200 block of West 106th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Steele was sitting on a bicycle watching friends play basketball when a car drove up that afternoon and the passenger fired several rounds toward the group of people, said Detective Q Rodriguez of the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau.
Steele sustained a gunshot wound to the torso and was taken to Harvard UCLA Hospital, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office. The victim later died at 6:02 p.m.
Rodriguez said neither Steele nor his friends were gang members.
Authorities believe there were two to three suspects in the vehicle. They were described as black men, 20 to 25 years old.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
