Alex Quintana, 27

Died Oct. 16, 2010

Alex Quintana, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Oct. 16, in the 700 block of East 24th Street in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Quintana was found in an alley suffering from several gunshot wounds about 12:10 a.m. He was taken to California Hospital Medical Center where he died a few hours later, Winter said.

No arrests have been made, said Los Angeles Police Det. Louis Calzadillas, who is handling the investigation. Investigators do not have a description of the suspected shooter.

Quintana was a documented gang member, Calzadillas said, and the shooting is believed to be gang-related.

Anyone with information about the circumstances leading up to Quintana's death is asked to contact Det. Calzadillas or Det. Torres at (323) 846-6556. Tipsters who'd like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

Eight reader comments about Alex Quintana

-That area is known territory for a ruthless street gang called Primera Flats [PFx3]. Given that the victim was a "documented gang member" he was murdered for either being a rival gang member in the wrong area or.. possibly he was from the Primera Flats Gang & knew the face of his killer(s)..

He was a documented gang member from Primera Flats...That's the life of a gang member, either they end up getting life in prison or killed in the streets...

How does the taunting comment above make it in here. (Papas Fritas) Yet a handful of my more insightful comments are straight-up ignored.
