Homicide Report > Andre Lockhart, 28

Andre Lockhart, 28

Died Dec. 27, 2011

Andre Lockhart, a 28-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Dec. 27, near 55th Street and Normandie Avenue in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities responded to a radio call at 2:20 p.m., and Lockhart was transported to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m., officials said.

According to coroner’s records, he died from gunshots to his head and leg.

A 16-year-old man was also shot but is in stable condition, officials said.

The shooting, which was a drive-by, appears to be gang-related, said LAPD Criminal Gang Homicide Det. Stacey Szymkowiak. Lockhart was a documented gang-member, she said, but added that the other victim, a friend of Lockhart’s, was not heavily documented with any gang affiliation.

Investigators are pursuing good leads, she said, but no arrests have been made. Officials did not provide additional information about the case.

Anyone with additional details about the shooting is asked to contact Dets. Szymkowiak and C. Valento at (213) 485-1383. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800) 222-8477.

Um first of all "MECK" You need to show the Big Homie some RESPECT! What you mean "So he wanted to be a gangster?" Nothing about Andre was a "Wanna Be" This Man was the Real Thing! The Niggaz Who shot Him "Wanted to be Cowards" That day! They couldn't fade him, meaning they feared him, and a unrealistic Nigga like you will NEVER understand it! So Shut yo Dumb ASS Up. # LOSER.

Check it out 'homes'. First of all, I'm not a 'nigga'. Second, gangsters don't get MY respect. Whether they carry guns or not, they're all cowards, including you, for enabling them. Last, 'this man was the real thing'. Yes, and look where it got him. You call me a loser, fine, but I'm still alive because I'm not gangbanging. You need to check yourself on who the real dumb ass is here. Peace to you G! #gotpunked

@ CURTISA-

It's obvious you don't want to hear anyone's opinion. So why are you on a public forum blog again? I mean, you act like people are at this guy's funeral disrespecting his surviving family or something.

As far as those voicing their opinions here, they've been doing this for years and it's the same pattern over and over and over and over. Let me guess, "he had a big heart". "He loved his family and friends". "He never hurt nobody". And of course, "He's resting in paradise".

The enablers such as yourself are a dime a dozen, and your anger... if you could just harness that anger and direct it to some of your friends that are still alive, and urge them to change; this just might be your last need to visit a friend's homicide report.

I know, "who the hell do I think I am?"... just another concerned citizen who truly believes you won't change either.

I hope you read this Curtisa. I want to say I'm sorry for your loss. And I can never begin to understand the reasons but I do know that life was probably a different world for Mr. Lockhart than it is for me. I am scraping by month-to-month, but people I know don't have to fight to survive. Please know that I do NOT want to lumped in to MECK; no way does anyone WANT this way of life. And I am guessing - tell me if I'm wrong, MECK, - but I am guessing you don't live near danger, you don't have to fight to get respect. And by the way, Curtisa has my respect because of the honesty. MECK, you jumped in and threw out some inflamatory remark. Unfortunate. Makes you seem like the one without any caring or understanding for what life is like for a lot of people. What are you doing on this site anyway? Are there others who you just wait to give some negative comment to? I'm sorry, I'm sure a quick judgement by me isn't right, but REALLY, what are you doing here?

I grew up in East Los Angeles. Every block you crossed was a different gang territory. I didn't have to survive by fighting or joining a gang. I went to school, stayed away from drugs and didn't associate with anyone resembling a gangster/tagger. I finished college and moved out. Now, I live away from danger. You're right about that.
As far a me understanding or caring, I don't care to understand the life of gangster. Everyone knows there's only two outcomes to that lifestyle: prison or death, as in this guy's case.

CURTISA,

An obituary page or even the guestbook on Legacy.com is more of a sacred forum of respect to the deceased and those who have lost a loved one. Again, this is a Homicide Report blog. It's just that, a forum for the general public to voice their opinions about the report above.

Why do you think the editors let these opinions through? Even your's, as mad and defensive as they may be. They still edit them and push them through so your opinion can be heard just like anyone else's.

I personally took about 3 months off from even reading these reports because I needed a break from the monotony (lack of variety and interest; tedious repetition and routine).

The good posts are the ones of former gang members who come on here to let others know that there is another way. It's hard, but it CAN be done, the chain CAN be broken. I personally just don't see enough of those. And I'm not going to pretend that I have the answers either, as much as I try to come up with solutions.

The bottom line is these killings are a shame. They are heart-wrenching in certain instances, even with me having no ties to the deceased; especially since the average age is around 20. I mean, what happened to fists? Why are there so many cowards? Good luck answering that one.

Godspeed.

@meck,@syscom3 I walk by this site every day on my way to school at 5:45 every morning and I'm reminded of my own mortality daily. I have holes in my shoes and I haven't ate since Sunday I was there when they taped off the crime scene and I just lost a cuzin to cancer, you don't know death like I know death. How do you muster the nerve to downgrade someone's life based on how they lived. I'm not saying it's right nor am I saying its wrong, but who are you to bash a black or latino for being murdered when you support an organization that murders women and children in the middle of the night while in there beds sleep, all for the false presumption of security how do you sleep at night because I don't, you can't tell me siht about Drocc because every interaction I had with this man was noting but respect so before you degrade his struggle for life ask yourself what have you struggled for lately because my struggle is to make it to law school before I'm murder on this same street. When I'm murdered and my name appears on this report know that I died on my way to school hungry with holes in my shoes with my head held high not hiding. Let me ask you this what am I suppose to do stay in the house? Hell no! Just because you took the cowards way out doesn't make the rest of us cowards. I'm Brandon Jones and I'm not hiding behind an internet scene name! It's easy to sit back and comment from the safety of your home but what are you doing to change this reality? I hope the editors of this blog print this.

“How do you muster the nerve to downgrade someone's life based on how they lived.”

Because I have no respect for anyone that chooses to be a sociopath or enables a lifestyle that is nothing but destruction, violence and barbarity.

“I'm not saying it's right nor am I saying its wrong,”

So are you afraid to take a stand against the lifestyle that has turned your neighborhoods into killing fields and has made the Homicide Report possible?

“but who are you to bash a black or latino for being murdered”

There are many blacks, asians, whites and Latino’s that also don’t subscribe to that lifestyle.

“when you support an organization that murders women and children in the middle of the night while in there beds sleep,”

Huh?

“because my struggle is to make it to law school before I'm murder on this same street. When I'm murdered and my name appears on this report know that I died on my way to school hungry with holes in my shoes with my head held high not hiding.”

That is the difference in the two worlds we live in. You worry about being murdered and I look forwards to dieing from old age. You tell me who lives in the rational world and who lives in a violent irrational world.

“ It's easy to sit back and comment from the safety of your home but what are you doing to change this reality?

It’s people like you that scare so many law abiding citizens. Always the threat of violence against those you find “disrespected” you or your friends.

“ so your opinion is invalid and considered mute on all points.”

I will remember that on election day.

Syscom3 you really amaze me...
"Because I have no respect for anyone that chooses to be a sociopath or enables a lifestyle that is nothing but destruction, violence and barbarity."....
Hey fool dont you know that sociopathic behaviors are considered a mental illness...Kids are in the city suffering from PTSD from daily shootings and you criticize them for that...AMAZING!
I'm wondering what is your view on those that were in Iraq killing innocent civilians for NO reason other than to KILL...?...THat's a sociopath...
"That is the difference in the two worlds we live in. You worry about being murdered and I look forwards to dieing from old age. You tell me who lives in the rational world and who lives in a violent irrational world."
Idiot children that are watching and hearing about homicides in their communities on a weekly basis willbegin to believe that they are next...It is a sub-conscious thing...YOU WOULDNT UNDERSTAND FOol!!!....based on research it is normal for a person to feel that way if they are in that environment...
YOu my friend think very irrationally...YOu live in a boxed frame of mind...I pray to GOd that you do not have any children...Because if you are teaching your children the things that you believe you are creating a monster...The scary part is that the views you share were similiar to those of the Columbine posse...GO FIGURE!!!!
"It’s people like you that scare so many law abiding citizens. Always the threat of violence against those you find “disrespected” you or your friends."...
Where in this young mans blog did he threaten anyone with violence? Once again assumptions are in the mind of the irrational...when you challenge someone make sure you have valid information and points...considering that you said you have some college experience you should be able to put together your thoughts better than that...
The world we live in are two totally different worlds...I see the good and bad in people and attempt to help those going in the wrong direction...you see the bad in people and automatically think they had it coming to them...and once again its only when the people are of a minority background...I'm starting to see the RACISM in you...

Vicki-

Living in dangerous neighborhoods or the “ghetto” is not a death sentence in itself. Choosing to be a gangster more than likely is. I grew up in Paramount, CA right next door to Compton, CA. It was my decision from a very early age that I was not going to become like most of the people I was surrounded by: scum. I didn’t get “shot at” nor did I end up becoming a criminal to “earn respect.” Instead, I befriended good and normal, aka non-criminal, people with dreams of becoming something better than just a gangster. I understood from a very early age that in order to succeed in life, in a positive manner, I needed to educate myself and to get out of the place I was living then. We all have a choice to make, and those choices will take you to the place you want to be in life. If you plant tomato seeds do not expect cherry blossoms.

First of all, its a false premise to equate homicides committed by individuals that have no legal sanction with others that have the authorization to use deadly force as given by lawfully elected representatives. You know the difference, so don't sugarcoat it.

"how about the Caucasian guy in FLorida that shot an unarmed teenager and killed him". Actually, it turns out the shooter is Hispanic. And what he did was horrific and he should be harshly judged in and out of court.

"To hate someone for being a THUG is like hating someone because of their COLOR". I have a hatred for all gangs regardless of race, ethnicity or creed. It just so happens this blog is about LA County. The preponderance of violent gangs is Latino and black. Ask the editor to include more areas of California so I can have a better chance at criticizing Asian and white gangs.

As for loving a thug? Why? They're the proverbial barbarians in the gates. The bringers of pestilence and rot. The representatives of hate, crime and social decay. They are the true parasites of society. There's really nothing good you can say about them.

"Um first of all "MECK" You need to show the Big Homie some RESPECT! # LOSER.
