Andy Bonilla, 18
Died Dec. 23, 2010
Andy Bonilla, an 18-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Thursday, Dec. 23, in the 1000 block of West 104th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Bonilla was in a car with two other men going west on 104th Street about 5:30 p.m. when they stopped to look at a house that was under construction, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.
After noticing two black males watching them. Bonilla and his companions decided to drive away, officials said. At 104th Street and Vermont, they stopped at a stop sign. At that point, a vehicle drove up behind them, a black male exited the passenger side and then fired several gunshots into Bonilla's car, striking all three occupants.
The shooter got into his vehicle and fled the scene.
Authorities were called and Bonilla, who was the rear passenger, was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he died from a gunshot wound to the back, according to coroner's officials.
The front passenger of the car, later identified as Christian Marin, a 24-year-old Latino, was pronounced dead at the scene. He died of a gunshot wound to the head, coroner's records show.
The driver suffered grazing non-life-threatening bullet wounds, officials said.
Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
