Andy Hernandez, 16 [Updated]
Died Dec. 2, 2010
Andy Hernandez, a 16-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Dec. 2, in the 100 block of East 73rd Street in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said someone stepped out of a car about 10:07 p.m. and shot Hernandez and two other people.
Paramedics were called, and the three victims were taken to a hospital where Hernandez was pronounced dead 30 minutes later. According to corner's records, he was shot several times in the shoulder and back.
Winter said he did not know the status of the two other victims.
The Times has contacted investigators for additional information about the shooting and will post an update as soon as possible.
[Update Dec. 8: LAPD Criminal Gang & Homicide Det. Chris Balling said the shooter shot Hernandez and one other person, not two people as earlier reported by the coroner. The second victim was taken to the hospital for a superficial wound and was later released, he said.
Witnesses described the assailant as a black man in his 20s. He was last seen fleeing the area in a dark sedan.
The shooter is believed to be a gang member, Balling said, and the incident is considered to be gang-related.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Dets. Chris Valento or Dean Vinluan at (213) 485-1383. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).]

— Addictt; are you suggesting the deceased was up to no good when he was murdered? Maybe a drug deal gone bad?
Please tell us more about him.

Why do bad things happen to good people? Syscom3, you should not be so quick to write it off as something negative like that. Andy was a good kid, a loving brother, and a nephew that will be missed by so many. Its very unfortunate that his life ended this way. The gang violence really needs to stop. Rest In Peace Andy.

LM ..... reread what Addictt said;
"thisss wasnt suppose to go down likee it didd "
Aside from the atrocious spelling, that reads like they went down there for something nefarious and it didnt work out like they planned.

Syscom3, the writing style of Addict is popular among teenagers and young adults. You need to familiarize yourself with new trends and mainly about the streets of L.A. Clearly you are out of touch of what’s going on and you assume and judge based on what you read in a textbook.

— Jag; first impressions are everything. His writting style is horrible. Both of you might think it's hip and cool; but to many of us it's indicative of someone thats illiterate or has a poor education.
Thats part of the problem in these killing field neighborhoods. The acceptance of substandard writting skills as being "cool and hip".
Addictt - this blog is read by many people all over the world. You need to write clearly so noone is left scratching their head wondering "did this person ever go to school?"
Look at what you wrote ""thisss wasnt suppose to go down likee it didd ".
How is anyone supposed to not interpret that statement to not mean the deceased was doing something by plan and something went wrong?

I rarely agree with syscom or perhaps the manner in which the opinion is stated, but in this case I do. This "style" of writing may be trendy but to get a good job or do well in school you should know how to write and spell correctly so that all, even "dinosaurs" (who usually do the hiring or review college applications) know what the heck you are trying to say.

@ Syscom & Sherlock,,, This open forum is not a College application nor a job application,, just as Syscom deems it necessary to render sometimes what the majority of HR readers deem inapppropriate comments/questions and completely ignorant to alot of things that transpire in these types of communitys,,, its obviously also just a matter of opinion the grammatical way one chooses to write out their responses on this blog. There is a much bigger picture here,, lets not get hung up on the way someone expresses themselves... this is their specific expression.

Nope, this blog is not an application for anything but the way you write, spell and speak reflects upon the type of person you are and the way your message is received. If the way you communicate is unclear to the masses or cluttered with "trendiness" then your message is lost and rendered useless. The big picture on the HR is never lost, at least not to me. There are way too many young people, such as young Andy, being killed for no reason and very little if anything is being done about it. It saddens me.

syscom, i don't think it's a big secret that this was likely a gang-related killing. But it is still a tragic event, so maybe you should let the friends and family members mourn, and quell the urge to pry.
God forbid you should ever have a son who gets in trouble and gets killed. I'm sure you wouldn't want people picking apart your words and pestering you with questions in an effort to dismiss his death.

Syscom3 you always have something to say! I agree with RM

Sherlock, get real. Most youngters use their phone to browse the internet and they text away. It's apparent that Addict posted his message from a cell phone. How naive are you?
Feb. 4, 2011 at 3:34 p.m.
— SC_LA .... so you agree that poor grammar is acceptable in order to convey a thought?
