Asia Sonnier, a 23-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Tuesday, Jan. 3, in the 1100 block of South Kemp Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The shooting was reported shortly before 9:30 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Sonnier was pronounced dead at the scene. A man, who was also shot, was taken to a hospital. His condition was not available.

No additional details were immediately available.

Since January 2007, at least 156 homicides have been reported in Compton, according to a Times Homicide Report database.
