Avery Cody Jr., 16 [Updated]
Died July 5, 2009 at 4:05 p.m.
Avery Cody Jr., a 16-year-old black youth, was shot by a sheriff's deputy and died July 5 at Alondra Boulevard and Poinsettia Avenue in Compton, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
The only information released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department about the incident was that a loaded handgun was recovered from the scene of the shooting.
"The involved personnel were on routine patrol at the time," said Sgt. David Insante, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Department.
Coroner's investigators said Cody was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead at 4:05 p.m.
Insante said he did not know when or if his office would release details about what happened leading up to the shooting.

Was Avery a gang member? Where did he get the gun? Why was he running from the police?

Tuco no Avery was not a gang member. I am his aunt and "IF" he had a gun my family and I have no idea where he could have gotten it from. He was normally always at home with his family, but the one day he was out with friends we would have never imagined he would never return to us. It's sad how we speculate about things we don't know. My family has yet gotten any information inregards to that day from the LA County Sherrifs. We can only wait and pray that justice will prevail.

rip avery cody jr ....ill miss u always nobody or no one kant take that from me ....u will always be mine ....i love u babe ...damn babe i remember that friday when me and u got in that big fight ....u told me u never wanted to talk to me again ...then like 30 mins later u kalled me and told me u love me ...and u wanted to see me nd meet u by that buger place ....thats the frist night i low key got n truble for u but i didnt kare ...then that saturday we hung out and playd games lol ....babe i remember u told me u was going to get sum thing to eat nd then u said u was kumn over after... that day u askd me that question that i didnt want to hear ...u askd me what if u died today or tomorrow what would i do nd i told u...u wasnt going no where if god didnt want you to go...i guess he did ...that day u told me to meet u at the 99% store then that when i heard gun shots i ran ....then thats when i seen u cryn for help i pickd u up nd held u ...u lookd n my eyes and that last words was...(love u) then u closed them dark brown eyez nd went to heaven ... where god wanted u to go ....so babe plz think of me nd save me a spot in heaven where u lay ....i love u avery cody jr .

Is there any current information on this sad death of such a young man? Can I find out more information from the Times???? I would like to know more about what actually happened.

hey avery remember dat time wen it was just me u fat fat nd brasha that one day over ur house nd we had dat bomb pillow fight nd we claimed dat that waz da best time we spent with each other well its true we did hav da best time even knw u were rough lol i really miss u cuzo u were funny nd fun to hang out wit i hope to see u again just save me a spot..
