Carlos Rivera, 17

Carlos Rivera, 17, a Latino youth, was fatally shot by officers from LAPD's Newton Division in the 100 block of East 45th Street near Exposition Park about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, May 17.

According to LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman, officers responded to a radio call of a man with a gun. Upon arrival, the officers saw a group of men. Eisenman said Rivera pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers. Fearing their lives were in danger, the officers fired several shots at Rivera. Authorities said no one else was injured from the shooting.
