Cesar Guerrero, 18
Died Dec. 25, 2010
Cesar Guerrero, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Dec. 25, in the 1200 block of Innes Avenue in Echo Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
The incident began shortly before noon between Sunset Boulevard and the Dodger Stadium parking lot area, police said. A confrontation erupted between pedestrians and a group of men riding in a car.
During the dispute, a shooting occurred and Guerrero, who was sitting in the vehicle, was hit. Three others were wounded but survived, officials said.
After the shooting, the car, a white Honda Civic, apparently was then driven about 10 blocks away to Baxter Street and Echo Park Avenue. It was abandoned with Guerrero's body inside, according to Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Lt. John Romero. When authorities arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said they had not yet determined a motive and had not made any arrests. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (877) 527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

There aren't any homeboys in this world. This poor kid got shot with his homies in the car, and they abandoned the car with his dead body inside. Unbelievable!

So this is where our LA City taxes go to. To help this supposed "gang intervention" program subsidised by the the Los Angeles City government. Thanks Mayor Tony and Father Boyle!

Mtnup1-
Actually, most of Homeboy Industries' funds come from private donations. I wish that HBI would get more of my tax dollars. It is because of thinkers like you that most of our tax dollars go to housing people in prisons instead. Because the prison system is really working......

Rest In Peace my boy. You know I loved you like you were my own blood. People can say what they want about gang members and tax dollars, but they didn't know you like I did. They didn't know how good you were inside; how caring, how loyal, how smart, how talented. They don't know that you wrote beautiful poetry that revealed your true feelings because that's the only way you could express them. They didn't know your pain. I love you so much, and miss you already...but I know you are in a better place. Watch over us my angel. <3

In any given LA city block...driving up slowly towards dirty bangers wearing jerseys....
"Hey holmes, where yu from ese?" dirty banger 1 yells out. "I don't bang ey." replies scared banger 2.
"Where yu from esay?"
Shots ring out...
Gangbanger 1 says "Oh no ey, he's shot holmes!"
Gangbanger 2 replies "Wat ey, let's git atta here mang."
Car screeches down the block.
Two hours later the gangbanges plan a trip down south moving on to a neighboring country. "Hey mang, I think I wanna turn my life around ey." "I heard I can teach at the university down souf mang.""you're hired!" says the school chancellor later that day and he lived a fruitful and productive life! The End

I agree with “none” – I wish my tax dollars would go to comprehensive programs like HBI instead of the prison system – just saw this talk by this professor named Michelle Alexander – she broke down the whole prison system. It cost more to lock them up then to educate them!

I didn't know Cesar personally, but my thoughts and prayers go out to those who did know him and love him. How sad it is that he has been taken away from us in such a senseless killing. To those who post critical comments here, be reminded that we all have potential to love, create and share our divine gifts with those we encounter. Yes, it is true that some have a difficult journey and find it difficult to embrace the gifts we receive in this life. Someone who loved Cesar posted his talent at poetry and it would be wonderful if that gift can be shared with us. Words can live beyond the poet who wrote them and touch the lives of others' in a deep and profound way. For me, a stranger to Cesar, I'll be listening...
Rest Cesar and know you have, indeed, touched the world and you did make a difference.

I don’t want any more of my tax dollars going to these failed social programs. I would love to see welfare turned into “workfare”, you show up and work for one day doing whatever job the city needs at the time, sweeping streets, painting over graffiti, picking up trash, you name it, and at the end of the day you get a day’s pay, come back the next day and do it again.
The other thing I would love to see is our prisoners get put to work. First by farming to feed themselves, next by doing all the jobs that illegal’s are hired to do. Kill two birds in one stone, the prisoners pay for their stay in prison by producing a product and learning work ethic, and provide labor at a reduced cost to farmers and businesses.
I have a strong suspicion that this will not be posted due to it’s non-politically correctness.

Mr. De Rosa,
You have no idea who you are writting of...your writting is full of admiration and yet you have no idea what kind of person this man was and what kind of life he lived. I guess that's one of the worst things about society...you write of admiration and love for someone you do not know and I'm sure someone you would not want your children to hang out with. After all if anything speaks of his character is it this: his "friends" left him to die in a car all by himself! He made great friends.

I actually agree with both mochaone and with eye opener. HBI can have my tax dollars any day. But I agree that work programs are the way to go. It might be crappy work fixing potholes or covering up graffiti, but it's a day's pay. Anyway, HBI is basically the same thing. None of those guys are getting handouts -- they are working for their money and many have turned their lives around.

To "eyeopener" while I agree with you in regards to having folks work for their "welfare". As for prisoners doing the job of "illegals" this is logistically impossible. Most "illegals" do jobs such as, gardeners, housekeepers, nannies, maids, dishwasher, janitors, etc. what is your master plan on accomplishing this? The United States of America would love to hear your grand master plan!

Get Serious-
The real way to solve the immigration problem is to hold the employers that hire illegal’s accountable, both criminally and financially. I’m not talking about a slap on the hand; they need to have steep penalties to face. Five years in prison (labor camp), and forfeit their business and all profits since the profits were made with illegal workers. With these safeguards in place you wouldn’t even need ICE, the immigration problem would fix itself.
If you have a better way I’m all ears.
Jan. 12, 2011 at 12:52 p.m.
To "Eye Opener" my response was to your statement about making prisoners do the jobs of the illegals. YOU brought up the "illegal" issues. Again, stay on topic.
Jan. 12, 2011 at 2:47 p.m.
Get Serious-
I don’t really care what your point is; my point was to get rid of the immigration problem using wards of the state because my focus is entirely on the misappropriation of my tax dollars.
I can see from your childish and pathetic attempts that you’re just trying to argue, but you can’t come up with any good arguments yourself so you’re taking lame potshots at mine. Now it’s your turn to amaze us all with your brilliance.
We’ll be waiting…
