Charles Giddings, 26

Died March 7, 2011 at 10:34 p.m.

Charles Giddings, a 26-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, March 7, in the 700 block of east Pacific Coast Highway, according to authorities.

Long Beach police found Giddings in an alley about 10:23 p.m. after they were called to the scene after a report that shots had been fired, according to a police news release.

"When officers located the victim, they found he was suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso and performed CPR until paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived," the release said. "The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later."

Police said investigators had learned that Giddings, who was not immediately identified, had been walking when he was "confronted by at least one male suspect who fired at him."

Authorities said the motive for the shooting  was unknown.

Anyone with information about Giddings' killing is asked to contact Long Beach Police Department homicide Dets. Dave Rios or Roger Zottneck at (562) 570-7244. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may also report tips via text or e-mail at www.longbeach.gov/police.

It would help if "they" would share more info...I live on PCH n Myrtle.........and there is no discription of suspects---no background story on Mr. Giddings...nothing...so unless---more info is shed---on what they think is involved in this killing...the harder it is to share info that may be helpful to the police...............

The Police actually dont want to find the "killer"...they want us to be afraid. they are going through budget cuts. If they found the killer, you and I could rest better at night. LB police would not mind if the killers go on and kill. It gives them job security. They could easily give out way more information. Why dont they?...give us some back ground on this Poor Young Man. Where was he going, what color clothing did he have on...does he have a history of drug addiction? this area is well known for drugs and prosititutes.

My cousin did not deserve to die the way he did. We have no answers on what went down this night. The detectives have no answers and has encouraged (told) us not to go the location of the crime. They said it is not safe, but maybe it is because they really don't want us to find out what happen. I seen a post today that the long beach police is asking for the publics help on resolving a murder that just happened. Why didn't they do this for my cousin? Is it because they assumed he was just another gangster down. My cousin was no gangster. He has had a hard life since the death of his mother when he was 14. One thing is he would never hurt anyone. If any one knows what happened to my cousin please contact the detectives. We will never have closure until this person is caught. Rest in peace Matthew we love you!

@ Matt, I also noticed how much they seem to put much emphasis on the recent caucasion male that was found near Pine...

— CURIOUS GEORGE, thats because whenever a white person is killed, its a rare enough event to actually be newsworthy.

Look at the statistics that are provided with this blog.

I see ignorance is alive and well Curious George... you really better hope we don't find out what a world without the police is like because you won't like it either.

Rare? Please! It isn't rare, the fact is that impoverished areas are glamorized for news sake. And this is excatly what this blog does. How interesting would it really be to hear about white on white crime?

Hey "Curious George" who is "glamorizing" deaths here? This is for FAMILY AND FRIENDS to share memories of those who are killed. Yes, due to high unemployment, gangs, and deadends people in these areas suffer the most from these types of killings. To blame an entire community is irresponsible and ignorant. What is your solution?

Syscom3, "Look at the statistics that are provided with this blog", there are enough homicices involving white people that you along with others completely choose to ignore and not comment on. Take a second look and you will see.

Jag, according to the latest figures, only 11.3% of the victims in LA County are white. That is factual evidence that white and Asian victims are infrequent and rare.

Many of them are victims of black or latino assailants.

As I have repeatedly said since this blog was created; if the deceased is a white gangster, I will judge them just as harshly as any other sociopath.

Just so everyone can be clear about my cousin. He was mixed. My race should not be apart of my post. However, i am not black (native american and white). I still think that the detectives pick and choose whose case they will solve. It has been almost two months and they have nothing. Instead we get please do not call us we will call you. Maybe if every murder case was in the media they would be solved. Do not get me wrong when this first happened i did have faith that they would find my cousins killer, but now i am not so sure. Rip Matthew one day justice will be served one way or another. If anyone has any information please contact the detectives.

Syscom3, you indicated 11.2% of homicides are whites in LA County. Considering Whites are a minitority in LA County it is not as rare as you think it is. Also, you always choose to bash on the Hispanics and Blacks who have been killed. On the other hand, you have posted only two to three comments when it involves Whites.

Don't lose heart...This case has not been put on the back burner. In fact, leads have been attained and relentlessly followed. However, knowing who may have done this, compared to proving it beyond a reasonable doubt; which is our justice system's legal requirement, is often two different things. Unfortunately, I'm unable to provide details because of the sensitive nature of the information and if released, could impede the future prosecution of the subject(s) involved in this senseless act of violence. Again, please don't loose heart this can and will be solved, you have my word on that. Furthermore, I can personally assure you that the race of the victims and or suspects has no bearing on what resources are used nor the manner in which each individual case is prosecuted. To that you have my solemn oath...God bless your family in their time of need and while I know finding the suspect(s) will not provide closure, it will reinforce the concept of true justice to a segment of society that feels it may have been denied them based on racial or socioeconomic considerations.

Thinking of you little cousin! Still can't beleave this happend to you. Hoping one day the person who did this to you gets caught. We love you and miss you! If anyone know anything please speak up! This most likely will be the only way my cousins killer will be caught. Please help our family by telling the detectives what you know.

One year later and no updates from the detectives. The person who murdered my cousin is still roaming the streets to kill again and destroy another family. I guess it will have to be up to us to find out who did this to Matthew. For anyone who knows what happened or something that could help this case please contact the detectives . You may not think it may be important information, but it just may help.
We miss you Matt forever in our hearts!
