Christian Gutierrez, 27, a Latino man, was shot and killed in the 4600 block of Venice Boulevard in the Mid-City area about 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24.
Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD's media relations office said Gutierrez was standing outside his apartment with a friend when two Latino men approached them and began shooting at them. She said Gutierrez was struck in the chest. His friend was hit in the stomach. Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His friend was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
