Christian Marin, 24

Died Dec. 23, 2010

Christian Marin, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Dec. 23, in the 1000 block of West 104th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Marin was in a car with two other men going west on 104th Street about 5:30 p.m. when they stopped to look at a house that was under construction, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

After noticing two black males watching them, Marin and his friends decided to drive away, officials said. At 104th Street and Vermont Avenue, they stopped their car at a stop sign. At that point, a vehicle drove up behind them, a black male exited the passenger side and then fired several gunshots into Marin's car, striking all three occupants.

The shooter got into his vehicle and fled the scene, authorities said.

Authorities were called and Marin, who was in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. He died from a gunshot wound to the head, coroner's records show.

The rear passenger, later identified as Andy Bonilla, an 18-year-old Latino, was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he died from a gunshot wound to the back, according to coroner's officials.

The driver suffered grazing non-life-threatening bullet wounds, officials said.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

Eight reader comments about Christian Marin

I will always have very fond memories of Christian (white boy) I first met him in the the 9th grade, he was in the 10th grade. We had a physical education class together and we sat accross from each other in our squads, and he was always so humorous and always a "jokester". It saddens me very much that his life was cut short. I will miss you Christian! Both Chris and I will miss you. And we both thank you very much for playing 'cupid' and being to persistant in wanting us to be a couple. Nine years, and a son later and both him and I are still going strong, Thank you! Thank you for uniting love and being a great person. Que en paz descances amigo

And if we could arrest very single one of the gangsters who live here and charge them under RICO statutes, these crimes would no longer happen.

Instead we have a judiciary that's more impressed by civil liberties than the terror these communities live in.

The destruction and breakdown continues and all branches of the govt don't care about it.

Syscom3-
Society cares about civil liberties as long as mainstream communities aren't affected. Once the mainstream feels threatened then the gloves come off.
