Christina Salazar, 17
Died March 2, 2011
Christina Salazar, a 17-year-old white female, was shot to death Wednesday, March 2, near Maple Avenue and Adams Boulevard in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
The man who allegedly shot and killed her then led police on a nearly half-hour car chase that ended about a block from the shooting just south of downtown Los Angeles.
Police responded to a call of shots fired about 1:08 p.m. When they arrived in the residential neighborhood, they found Salazar wounded and on the ground, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Bruce Borihanh.
Witnesses directed officers to where the gunman was hiding. Minutes later, the man got into a car and fled the scene in a silver Ford Expedition, said Sgt. Manuel Ramirez of the LAPD's Newton Division.
Police recovered a gun at the scene, Ramirez said.
The man led police on a short chase through East L.A. before returning to 27th Street west of Maple Avenue –- about a block from the shooting — at about 1:35 p.m., Borihanh said. He got out of the car, lay on the pavement and was arrested, Borihanh said.
Salazar was taken to the hospital, where she died of her injuries, Ramirez said.
She was shot in the back, according to coroner's records.

Hi, I'm very curious about the story every since I seen the family & I just wanted to know what's happening with the man who killed her & his sister? I think this family needs justice but at the same time I want to know why a 17yr old would have a gun? So with that said can you guys at LA Times keep us who are curious with the story updated

The man is currently held in a 2 million bail. According to sources the sister is out. The 17 year old never carried a gun. The brother accidently shot the sister when trying to confront Christina.

Very sad story. Not sure of all the details but it sounds like this girl went looking for trouble and found it. RIP Christina Salazar.

well i read another news about thiss same accident and it says that the girl who shot her was released !
i think she should not have the right to get outt they should keep her in ther to pay for wha she did.
i knew christina sinch a while back obviously lost contact with her for like about two years ago but i know she was a happy person did not deserve what they did to her she was friendly and did not harm noone .
RIP CHRISTINA SALAZAR.

I heard that the teens had gotten into a fight, Christina shot the other girl on the leg. The other girl went to her brother to tell him that she had been shot...Im guessing her brother was furious and him and his sister(limping) went to chase her and shot her twice on the back.
May she RIP
My deepest condolesences go to the family and friends!

How can any of you make a judgement... Were you there... Until you hear the entire story - be quiet.. No one deserves to be shot from behind... THE BROTHER IS A COWARD - TO SHOT ANYONE FROM THE BACK - ESPECIALLY A FEMALE
COWARD COWARD COWARD

I agree with the guy on top, people shouldn' t make jugdements because in realty they really don't know what went on... I knew christina myself she was a wonderful person she didnt deserve what happen to her. The guy who shot her is really a coward how is he going to shot a 17 year old female behind her back.Thats a b***h move in my opinion. I also think the girl should get time.
-RIP CHRISTINA SALAZAR

There is WAY more to this story I am sure. Teens with guns? I am sure if you scratch deeper into the surface of this story there will be drugs, gangs, absent parents, and all the other ingredients that make these tragedies happen.

This story would be totally diferent if Christina shot and killed the other girl " Then you would see post like "oh yeah, Christina was crazy". This story is such a shame. Sad really, but if what other people are saying is true, Christina starting the events that eventually took her life..Young people really need to stop and think of what will happen before commiting an act of violence.
