Christopher Gaither, 33

Died April 17, 2010 at 5:23 a.m.

Christopher Gaither, a 33-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, April 17, in the 6300 block of San Pedro Avenue in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Det. Tommy Thompson of the LAPD's Newton Division said officers responded to report of gunfire about 3:20 a.m. Saturday. They found Gaither, who had been shot several times, on the stair landing of a two-story apartment building, Thompson said.

Gaither was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he died at 5:23 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Investigators believe Gaither was approached by an unidentified assailant and shot, Thompson said. The motive remains unknown. There were witnesses to the incident, however there are no suspects at this time, Thompson said.

Anyone with information about Gaither's death is asked to contact Thompson at (323) 846-6556. Authorities said tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

I didnt have many memories with Chris, but the ones I did were great. He did some of the craziest things that made me laugh and those are indeed the great memories. I know you are in Heaven now and Life is great there but I ask that you watch over us and especially my Auntie Daina; she is missing you, as we all do. We will always love you and cant wait to see you again!

Chris was not only a great man but he was a son, brother, father, uncle, cousin and to most a good friend. I've known Chris for many years, he was & still is my step-brother. He's gone but he will never be forgotten. I remember when me & him used to sit up and talk about our kids and our other half. How they was getting on our nerves but we always came up with one conclusion, that what don't break you will only make you stronger. So to my brother, I know you are in a better place and I know when my time comes I will see you. Love you always and forever. Your step-sister.
