Clint Smith, 28

Died May 13, 2010 at 7:10 p.m.

Clint Smith, a 28-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, May 13, in the 6300 block of South Brynhurst Avenue in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Smith and a female friend were standing in a courtyard about 6:15 p.m. when an unknown suspect approached and shot them, according to a LAPD news release.

The Los Angeles  Fire Department responded to the scene and took Smith and the female victim to a hospital.

Smith was pronounced dead at 7:10 p.m., according to coroner's records. The female was treated for her injuries and later released.

Although authorities had no description of the assailant, investigators said they believed the shooting was gang-related.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Criminal Gang Homicide Division, 77th Street Homicide Squad Dets. Dean Vinluan and David Ross at (213) 485-1383. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).

Syscum3, You are so quick to judge. She is saying his name which she called him bigg umms is a family name not a gang related name. Read first before you go to asking you dumb ass questions.

My question is the same as that of the first two commenters, but from the opposite direction. It is my understanding that a huge percentage of homicides in the US are directly or indirectly a result of drug trafficking. Why are there so few homicide cases mentioned under "LAPD Criminal Gang Homicide", and no mention at all of drugs under Circumstances?

By my understanding this case definitely sounds like it could have been a gang killing, or major disagreement for the suspect to walk into a apartment complex, through a gate and shoot the victim, and the lady he was with not knowing who could be waiting on him when he was leaving back out, or the suspect knows this place real well

First I would like to say to the family of Clint Smith that I am sorry for the loss of your loved-one. Second I would like to tell you to ignore syscom3. She thinks that anyone shot or killed in the urban community is a gangbanger. She has displayed this attitude continuly on the homicide report that when a Black or Latino is killed you must be a gangbanger or have done something wrong. She lives in a box and has some issues of the mind. Please dont let her total lack of respecting other people cause you anymore pain than what you are dealing with right now.

@ Syscom,, Are you amused somehow by the effects of your comments & questions you direct toward the family & friends of these victims? or are you truly completely ignorant to the many different scenerios that can take place under these circumstances of violence? Every victim is not a gang member,,, every victim does not live a life of crime. Is your thinking really that boxed?

He got killed in (hyde park area) 63rd and brynhurst is the heart of notorious rollin 60's gang members, its no secret police 77th division, crash, and ememies go site seeing on this street often, hell rapper nipsey hussle allways talks about "brynhurst" but verry rare does someone go inside "tha cages" and kill. Most the time people get killed outside on brynhurst in front of the cages but wow..that's a notprious 60's area and they don't let intruders over there, they dnt care if ur grandma lives in there or not. it is serious! Its a lot of shooters over thereand a lot of drugs I'm shocked there was no get back, word on thwe streets is the inglewood family bloods did it

This area is located within a huge crab gang area. Merely standing in ones front yard is dangerous enough. It boggles my mind as to why these young men and women put themselves in danger? Why would you be hanging out in the front yard of a known gang area? The report says its gang related so I am assuming the victim was/is affiliated with a gang. Another senseless act of violence

A few of these guys are right..if he didnt bang..it dont matter...he is in the age group of the tail end of the BG's (Baby Gangstas) era...so..us guys in are late 20's seen the gangbangers do their thing in the late 80's---by the early 90's some of us picked it up or decided not to...being young..being in the heart of the hood...youre a target...who ever did it blood crip mexican purple kkk it dont matter...they went into the heart of the hood to earn some stripes stars and bars for their set...the is no glory in killing an un armed man...there is no glory in shooting a woman...there is no glory dying in a dirty 1920's apartment courtyard.....60's didnt help Mr smith...60's aint going to do nothing for him...is Nipsey Hussle gonna pay for the funeral...? ........Google Nipsey Hussle...and go to you tube and watch what Crenshaw Blvd and Slauson Ave is all about

@foclipz I'm clint's (biggum) aunt and I agree with everything you said my nephew meant everything to our family, and no nipsey didn't pay for his funeral,he has a 11month old daughter,he sold tickets he was a scalper he was cool never hurt anybody and he wasn't a gang member we grew up over there he wasn't suppose to be there! And he was shot by somebody that was shooting at another person and when he ran he ran into the cave him and the woman were behind the intended target is what I heard if he would of ran towards hyde park he wouldn't have been hit,but never the less he was loved and will be missed

I have one question, if he wasn't from 60'z then why was it a bunch of rollin 60'z AT HIS FUNERAL? I BET YOU PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW THAT HUH? THEY KNOW INGLEWOOD FAMILY DID IT AN ALSO EVERYBODY KNOW THAT THE 60'z ARE VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIMES WITH WELL OVER 100 HOMICIDE VICTIMS.... SO STATE THE FACTS NOT THE PROPAGANDA ON HERE!

"EVERYBODY KNOW THAT THE 60'z "THAT THE 60'z ARE VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIMES WITH WELL OVER 100 HOMICIDE VICTIMS"

Thank you for stating the obvious. Being a member of a gang is not a healthy endeavor.

As for the gangsters being victims? Not hardly. A criminal can never claim to be a victim.

I think we can also say that Mr. Smith was a gangster who died the way he chose too.

besides biggums aunt...most of yall dont even know what in the world yall talking bout. clint smith was a good man. he helped raised me and i consider his fam and uncle that took him in like family to me. Did he hang with 60's. yes was he a gang member no. but that man took care of his fiance, his daughter, and looked after his family and friends. His heart and and his ability to make everyone laugh will be cherished forever.

— Sean, he hung with a violent gang. Therefore he was a criminal just like them.

Don't sugarcoat his life by saying he was good for this or that. He was associated with an evil group of men, and should be judged by the company he took.

Only a fool would judge a book by it's cover. Hey, way to go dincom3! You are a xenophobe. I'll give you clue: the first letter is pronounced like a Z. You'll have to Google the rest Einstein. And while yer at it maybe sit and think about why you live in America. You obviously don't believe in the Constitution or freedom. You continue to morally convict innocent people.

Just because you THINK someone is guilty doesn't mean they are. How dare you insult the families of murder victims in public. I would applaud the day your name shows up as a little red dot on the Google map.
