Daniel Castro, 22

Died May 5, 2011

Daniel Castro, a 22-year-old Latino, died Thursday, May 5, two days after he was shot near Broadway and Griffin Avenue in Lincoln Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Castro was driving with a female passenger on May 3 about 12:25 p.m. when an unknown person opened fire on them from another car, according to an LAPD news release.

Castro was hit after the bullets came through the car's rear windshield. The passenger, who was not injured, took control of the vehicle and went to get help. 

The victim was taken by a private car to a hospital, where he remained until his death May 5, police said. Coroner's records show he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown and there is no description of the assailant's car.
