Daniel Lotaki, 20, a young Samoan, was shot to death after exchanging gunfire with an armed security guard at Victoria County Park in Carson about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6. Paramedics pronounced Lotaki dead at the scene.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, several people were attending an annual Samoan Flag Day festival at the park, at 419 E. 192nd Street. During the festival, rival gang members got into an argument. Then Lotaki allegedly pulled out gun and fired several rounds into the crowd, authorities said. A private security guard working at the festival confronted Lotaki, and exchanged gunfire and killed him. Authorities said the three people who were wounded in the shooting were taken to local hospitals. Their conditions were unknown, authorities said.
