Daniel Orona, a 30-year-old Latino, died Friday, April 22, three days after he was shot in the 5400 block of Valley Boulevard in El Sereno, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Orona and three friends were sitting inside his van April 19 about 12:25 p.m., parked in front of a marijuana clinic, when they were approached by a black male, according to an LAPD news release.
The male then pointed a handgun in their direction and opened fire, police said, striking only Orona, who was in the driver's seat.
He then managed to drive a short distance before one of the passengers took control of the van and drove him to a hospital. Orona remained there until his death three days later.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case. Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.
