Danielle Hagbery, a 22-year-old white woman, died of gunshot wounds Sunday, Jan. 10, in the 300 block of 2nd Street in Manhattan Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.
Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Hagbery was killed at her apartment in a murder-suicide incident. Winter identified her killer as Michael Garrett Nolin, a 24-year-old white man, with whom she was living.
Winter said Hagbery and Nolin may have had a business relationship. Winter said neighbors heard gunshots the evening of Jan. 9, but nobody called the police.
After Danielle Hagbery failed to go to work at the Cheesecake Factory on Friday and Saturday, her boss alerted the police. Hagbery and Nolin were found dead at 11:44 a.m. Sunday — Hagbery with two gunshot wounds to the head and Nolin with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Winter said.
Updated Feb. 2: Diane Hagbery, the victim's mother, said her daughter was not living with Nolin and had no business relationship with him.
The pair had been dating for about a year, and Diane Hagbery said her daughter had been trying to end the relationship for some time. She said her daughter had become concerned that Nolin was too attached, while Danielle felt they were drifting apart.
Diane Hagbery said her daughter lived in Long Beach with several roommates. She said her daughter's roommates had gotten a restraining order against Nolin.
"She was trying to break up with him toward the end of last year, but he kept wanting her to go a little longer," Diane Hagbery said. "He was relentless, stalking her.... He would call her constantly, harass her if she didn't pick up, text her. There were a lot of things [he did] that I did not like."
She last spoke to her daughter the Thursday before she was killed. Her daughter told her she was tired and had to work the next morning. Danielle made no mention of plans to visit Nolin, her mother said.
Diane Hagbery said she did not know what her daughter was doing at Nolin's apartment, or what happened between the two that led to the shooting.

This story is completely wrong. Danielle didn't live with Mike. Danielle was Mike's girlfriend, no business relationship at all. She's was the sweetest girl in the world and the world will not be the same without her.

I knew Mike pretty well; I used to live right up the street from him. He told me about danielle in nov or dec of last year, I didn't know her because i lived in diego for the last 2 years. I can sadly say that even though I loved the guy in life before this horrendous act, it wasn't too far from something i pictured him doing. He had acted really strange around one ex in particular that i had discovered was cheating on him. He would show up at the house and try to fight everyone. I visited him last year one time and he was cleaning his guns listening to heavy metal doing cocaine; it made me feel really awkward. Mike had always been the first person to do something for a friend in need; I think feeling that he didn't feel that love back and that was eating at him. I pray for Danielle's family and Miss Dordoni.
