Dekweinte Hunt, 14
Died Oct. 11, 2007 at 10:20 a.m.
Dekweinte Hunt, 14, a black youngster, died some hours after being wounded in a party shooting that also killed 26-year-old Deandre Turner, making this Compton incident a double homicide.
The shooting happened at 623 S. Long Beach Blvd. in Compton at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, according to Sgt. Kent Wegener of the Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide bureau. Dekweinte's death at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood occurred at about 10:30 a.m., about eight hours after Turner died. A third victim, a black man or youth, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Wegener said the victims were at a large party. As the party broke up and people flowed outside, there was an argument, then a shooting. Some gang members were involved in the occasion in some way, police believe, though it was not clear what led to the argument. About 200 people attended the party; not one remained to give information to detectives when they arrived, Wegener said.
Wegener and his partner Det. Richard Biddle are seeking clues of any kind, including anonymous ones. They can be reached at (323) 890-5500.

Another example of a 14 year old out on the streets at 1:30AM on a school night.
Same thing happened to that 17 year old, Trevon Coats.

READ THE STORY THE ONLY THING THESE TWO HAVE IN COMMON IS THEY ARE BOTH DEAD. WHY YOU DONT COVERS THE FACT. WHAT'S THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE TWO. AT LEASE HAVE SOME TYPE OF SUBSTANCE BEFORE YOU COMMENT. WHO DO YOU WORK FOR LAPD OR LA TIMES? TO THE FAMILY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. By the way Trevon wasn't killed on a school night. Lets concentrate on the killers of these two. This will be tried in a court of law not a court of public opinion.

— CZY-LDY; what is a 14 year old out doing on the streets at 1:30am?
Same with the 17 year old.
My statement stands .... both of these individuals would still be alive if their parents made sure they were safe at home at those hours.
Nothing good happen to teenagers at those hours of the morning. And this is proof of it!

— yea yea ... "Yea im one for NO SNITCHIN NO MATTER WHAT"
And you're a reason that's helping to destroy your neighbohood.
And you're also the same type of person who probably gets angry when the rest of the sane and rational world laughes at your neighborhoods and the irrational conduct people like you live your lives by.

"Don't talk stuff u don't know Syscom3.U have things all twisted. U r nobody but a nothing, with nothing to do but find stories about teens being killed in the a.m. He's not just "that" Tre'von Coats. He was a human being just like the 14 yr old that was killed. Much respect goes out to the family of the 14yr old and the 17 yr old Tre'von.

Lil-Bit
Be more specific...what exactly does Syscom have twisted? And as far as I can tell, he's about as "nothing" as you are, since you're on here commenting about the same stories.
"Lets Stop the Violence and Take Back the Streets!"
Really? If you think people like syscom and others like myself have it "twisted", I have a hard time thinking you're really serious about that.

— Lil -Bit .... many people say I know nothing about this and that; but noone seems to be able to disprove me.
Do you, or do you not agree with this ... in this day and age, juveniles should not be outside away from their homes late at night.
The two deceased juveniles would still be alive today if they were safe and sound at home. Part of the strategy of taking back the streets is to isolate the youngsters from the predators.

syscom3 & Chris He's not just "that" Tre'von Coats. He was a human being just like the 14 yr old that was killed. This is what I mean about substance. Every one(generalization)want the violence to end and have safe streets and neighborhoods they can be proud of.562vert, there shouldn't never be a time to withhold valuable information that would solve a crime. It's not snitching but your civic duty.
No one can predict the future. As for the shooter it's o.k. to gun down teenagers(assumption). What are your thoughts on the shooter(s)? Does the shooter get to go on shooting more people? NO! NO! It's called gun control.Once agan "Let's have these cases and others tried in the court of law not the court of public opinion".STOP THE VIOLENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is the gang they were involved in never posted?
Not to give them any positive publicty, just so that the public is aware of these criminal POS.
July 25, 2010 at 9:15 p.m.
— Eye Opener; I have always wondered about that too.
It seems logical enough for society to "know our enemy".
July 25, 2010 at 11:18 p.m.
Me too, Syscom. It appears that law enforcement in most major metro areas have substantial information on what gangs are where and who their members are. And yet they seem very reluctant to get that info out. If the law abiding people could access that information through, say, a publicly accessible website, perhaps one maintained by the gang task force, then we could put pressure on these scumbags. We already have that for sex offenders so why not for the equally destructive and dangerous criminal gang members? Megan Garvey, if you're reading this, can you find out from law enforcement what's going on here? Why won't they let that kind of information out? Perhaps the LA Times could start such a website.

— Auntie Kiki ...... 200 people saw what happened but not one person has said a thing. Yet to you, the police are responsible for not solving this murder.
Sgt Kent Wegener-LASO Homicide | January 24, 2008 at 09:57 PM asked for witnesses to step forward and no one did. Why is that?
Your anger is misplaced. Direct it at the gangsters who have turned your neighborhoods into shooting gallery's. "Killing fields" is a better description.
And the deceased had a weapon? Makes sense because Mahdi Gary said it was a gang party.
