Dominique Johnson, a 28-year-old black man, was shot in a drive-by assault just before midnight July 4 and died in the hospital shortly after.
On Saturday, his friends and family gathered in Cerritos Park to celebrate what would have been his 29th birthday. There was food and laughter, Johnson's two young children swung from the playground equipment and family members gathered at the picnic tables to talk and play dominoes.
But there was a heaviness to the celebration.
This was the park where Johnson spent his last day celebrating July 4th with his family.Shonda Louden, Johnson's girlfriend, said they had spent all day July 4 in the park celebrating then drove home to set off fireworks in front of his grandmother's house.
Johnson lived with Louden in the 1300 block of North Tamarind Avenue in Compton, about a block away from his grandmother's house. When his family finished setting off fireworks, Johnson and Louden got into his car and drove the short distance back to their home.Louden said she went inside to take a shower as Johnson stayed in his car to talk to a neighbor.

I watch Dominique grow up from a boy to a young man to "THE MAN" He has always shown me RESPECT! Dominique is the kind of son we all would like to have. Dominique would not wait for things to happen he would make it happen. He loved cars every time I saw him he was either working on one or putting rims on one or getting one out of the paint shop. He will never be forgotten! And everytime I see a car with big rims and nice paint and sound bumppin I will turn my head and look around to see if it is Dominique dipping again? / and A.J. Keep your "HEAD UP" from BIG((P)) Compton!

I would like to know the up date of this case. It seems like the good always die young and nobody seems to care. WHY haven't the murderer been put in jail yet, we want justice served. If it was anybody else it would of been solved already....please help DOMINIQUE out by finding his killer......THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.......

— concerned, ...... less than half of the homicides in LA are cleared. Even less end up with a conviction.
Its an unfortunate fact that in all probability, no one will be arrested.

he was a good person,and yes he did love car's we sold hem a jaguar he hooked it up then sold it back to us,this is his good friend juan. R.I.P Dominique.
