Dominique Peatry, 14

Died Sept. 5, 2010 at 2:03 a.m.

Dominique Peatry, a 14-year-old black girl, was shot and killed Sunday, Sept. 5, in the 44000 block of 6th Street East in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. at a house party, according to Deputy Lillian Peck of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Dominique and six others were injured. The victims, ranging in age from 13 to 26, were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Dominique was pronounced dead an hour later, authorities said.

The other victims are all expected to survive.

A gang dispute appears to have sparked the shooting, officials said.

Homicide bureau Lt. Pat Nelson said investigators are “confident” that the shooting was gang-related, but declined to identify the gangs. There had been no arrests made by Monday evening.

Nelson called the shooting a “senseless, brutal crime,” and asked anyone with information to call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500 or leave an anonymous tip at (800) 222-TIPS.

So sad? whats the use of going to school when your in a gang or socialize with them? only to get killed by other loser gang members or beat to a pulp for a street name or a curb corner that belongs to the tax payers that worked hard to have it put thier long before any of us were born. So why go to school when you hang with gang members that are going nowhere but to an early grave only take these kids with them!

Three other people have been killed within a few blocks of where she was killed. 23 within two miles. That seems quite high considering that the population density is far lower than central LA.

Lancaster sure has changed the past 20 years. So many people from South and central LA have moved up there and brought their gang culture with them.

High Desert Finerst Sisterhood Social Club of Victo...Really? The founder is Spysee 2 hott? Really?

OMG, guess you can take the woman of the getto out of the getto but you can't take the getto out of the woman. Too bad the "social club" can't get any of its members to make right by this family and talk in order to get the murderer off the streets.

R.I.P. Sister Peatry may G-D bless your soul.To brother Meck, remember all the violence in the 80's and 90's in LA and Compton? If you don't they all moved to Palmdale and Lancaster.Peace and Blessings to the family.

What's wrong with the high desert social club? It doesn't sound like gang trash to me...why don't you look them up before you run your mouth@ wasted time. I checked them out online and they seem like decent people. As for black flight up to the high desert in the 90s..it was a joke... us decent blacks should have turn the tables on the gangs in the 80s and stayed in south central and watts and long beach and compton..instead many of us blacks moved to the ie and the high desert and let the riffraff move in also... no disrepect to white people but the white people did the opposite and we should have done what they did...most of the white riffraff are in the ie and high desert..they all up in victorville, san ber doo, riverside, palmdale, hemet, and barstow with their motocycle gangs and skin head groups making that meth...but they are up there in numbers..not down here in big numbers...not saying that the most people in the high desert are bad cause that's true also the high desert riffraff are not all up in the city shooting up anybody at a party or a random walkin down the street at 217 am. ...is it a stereo type or is there some truth in what I'm saying? We should run the thugs to the high desert and let them live up there ...cause soon as the middle class blacks moved out the illegals moved in...they whole ie and high desert is a freakin joke to me and I felt that way since I was a teen in the 90s and I also read the book CITY OF QUARTS by Mike Davis which also reinforced my opions of us blacks in so cal

562vert, glad you mentioned the white gangs that are scumbags and just as despicable as the black and latino gangs.

Interesting that you read that book, "City of Quartz". Care to share more?

good book to read...good topics such as how blacks gangs such as the slausons went from fighting white gangs of the 50s in 60s such as the infamous Spook Hunters and once white flight started..the blacks gangs turned against each other and for 40 years nothing has change in so cal with black on black murders...it was more likely that girl was killed by a black guy than anybody else.. the saga continues.. shes not the first... and most definitely not the last to get killed at a party.

A 14 yr old girl at a party at 1 am? Just a hunch, but this was not a person destined for societal greatness. I would say her parents are probably disappointed, but they were probably at the same party.

Sad about this young life lost to senseless gang violence. But what is even more amazing is the fact that Black leaders in both Lancaster and Palmdale are holding town hall meetings to complain about the Sheriff Deputies who are hard in trying to keep the criminals off the streets and prevent them from victimizing innocent citizens. Talk about messed up priorities! I guess it's easier to yell at the cops than to take ownership and attempt to fix ones own community.

— tony912; that is why the law abiding citizens of those areas should be telling law enforcement to get even more aggressive about enforcing the law, and making those thugs to feel unwelcome.

Drown out those "black leaders" voices with your own. Don't let a few of them think they can dictate policy.

And wont you bet that those same "leaders" (if you can call them that) use the same words we see in this blog .... "good kids who make bad choices" ..... "who are you to judge us" ...... "just because he looks like a thug, talks like a thug and acts like a thug doesn't mean he isn't a bad person"!

What I find hard to believe is that people are using this forum to "bang" on people and judge what others do or say (social club or what books we've read) instead of sending our condolences or praying for the family. No matter what race you are or your beliefs, we need to come together and pray for change in the community we live in.

What are kids doing at grownup parties in the first place? shame on the owner of the house for allowing kids to party with adults?

— sad
Dec. 16, 2010 at 5:09 p.m.

Sad, instead of asking why were they at the party? You should be asking why haven't the police arrested the killers.Be mindful that these killers are still walking the streets every day, no one is safe as long as they are on the streets, and they will continue to kill. Now, that's sad. Our children are in danger.

Its sad that this happened but we do need to ask why this young girl was at this party. Whats the deal with parents these days, with a bit common sense on someones end this could have been prevented.

My thoughts and prayers to the family. The big question is " Why can't a family gathering, party or get together be fun and drama free?" Why is it that we are not free to enjoy our family and friends with out the fear of a drive by? How come we live in a war zone in our own communities? We need to be outraged every day someone is killed and we need to go out and march until our feet blister every time a precious child is murdered by these low lifes. I don't blame the family I blame the world we live in. It is now the norm to hear gunshots, to see yellow police tape and to hear that all to familar " scream" of a loved one once they hear of the death of their son or daughter. It is sad but I feel like a day without a murder is not normal. I pray that the congressmen and senators and city officials hear our cry and changed the city they took office to serve. The only way this will end is with the help of our city leaders and the community. I would like to start a petition to send to the county supervisor, to Maxine Waters and to anyone else who is supposed to be our voice, I am just not sure how to get it started and how many signitures it will need to even get their attention. So tired of it all.

— Jay ..... long time readers of this blog are not in the least surprised that no one "talked". It's part of the dysfunction that exists in these cultures and neighborhoods.

The fact that noone has talked indicates that this party was not a family gathering. She should have been at home, safe and sound.

Dec. 23, 2010 at 9:02 a.m.

Syscom3, it is not for you or me to determine what type of party it was because we don't have the facts. But it is our responsibility to keep our children safe from killers. Dominique was a innocent person who did not deserve to die. We are not God, therefore it is not for us to throw stones or judge. "God does not judge us", so who are we to judge. What we should be commenting on is how can we get those killers off the streets? The longer her killers stay on the streets, more of our children will die. We should be asking when are the police going to arrest her killers? She deserves justice.

— Jay
Dec. 23, 2010 at 7:57 p.m.

— Weezy .... Maxine Waters is part of the problem. Why bother with her? Same with the other elected policians They are all "do nothing" politicians who know only how to blame.

How about you agitate for change during the primaries? Get someone who is tired of excuses. Someone who really wants to improve the economy and school system. Someone who is tired of unchecked illegal immigration and the decay it has brought.

Change must start with the people who live in the killing field neighborhoods. And stop accepting the status quo.
