Donnell Washington, 30

Died Sept. 27, 2010 at 5:10 p.m.

Donnell Washington, a 30-year-old black man, died Monday, Sept. 27, three days after he was shot in the 1400 block of West 61st Street in Harvard Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police received a 911 call of shots fired Sept. 24 about 10:45 p.m., said LAPD Newton Det. Sam Arnold, who is handling the investigation.

Authorities arrived and Washington was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head, according to coroner's records. He was taken to California Hospital Medical Center where he died three days later.

Another man was also shot during the assault, however his injuries were not life-threatening, Arnold said.

Pending the ongoing investigation, Arnold could not provide a description of the suspected shooter or say if the shooting was gang-related.

[Note: Although coroner's officials said Washington was 30 at the time of his death, police investigators said they believe he was 24.]

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Arnold at (213) 485-1385. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).

The Los Angeles city neighborhood where Washington was shot is one of the most dangerous areas patrolled by the LAPD or Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, according to crime data gathered for The Times' new interactive Crime L.A. database

Harvard Park, which has nearly 11,000 residents in well under a square mile, ranks eighth highest for per-capita violent crime and 14th highest for property crime. Since the start of the Homicide Report in January 2007, 16 people have been killed in the neighborhood.

syscom3-
Let me translate this for you: the first two posts on here mention"62 brim" and "bike rim" which reference a Blood gang from that area, near 62nd, called the Harvard Park Brims ("bike rim" being a derogatory term for that neighborhood ). The user you are questioning is claiming a gang, Hoover Criminals. Specifically that user has signed his name as way of claiming the set on 107th, but goes down the whole roll call of the gang with his comment--all of those streets are claimed by Hoover Criminal sets. He is implying that the Hoovers were responsible for this man's murder.

It is sad that this informative report has become a net-banging site, where real or fake gangsters are claiming certain sets and implicating others. A murder is always a tragedy, always unjust, always a waste; I hope the family can find peace and solace. Further, I hope that people will wake up and realize there is much more power and respect in unity, compassion, and peace than there is in claiming a imaginary line on a map.

@ Tim,

Well said, and much respect...

idiots like this moron w/s1x7hxxverz, really need to get a life, and stop glorifying criminal gang activity, like we as law-abiding citizens are really going to feel like we're missing something for not living the criminal gang type life-style.

I applaud those of you who speak with dignity and sense. When will we realize that glorifying death and violent behaviors as "special skills" to be our down fall. Our black Families have lost the entire city as our black sons and brothers take up residency in jails and the graveyards. Mothers spend more money on flowers and burial plots than vacant spaces in the schools/colleges. (What a preference.)

I say we have learned nothing from the blood of Dr. Martin Luther King; a Million-Man-March means nothing if the intended "losers" never hear the message or don't have the ability to "read" and "heed" it.

There is nothing special about "rhymes" or getting high all day; with each $ made by the rappers, not one of them yet has spoke on anything positive. They (rappers)really need to keep it real and let their "follower's" know that without GOD, structure, and self discipline we will NEVER survive as a race until we put aside the self-hatred and jealousy.

We really need to wake up....but then....it's already too late.

— MS D .... "how do u no that is he was or wasn't a gang member"

Several comments left by people for this murder indicate the deceased was directly or indirectly involved in gang activty.
