Earl Hervey, 19 [Updated]

Died Sept. 13, 2010 at 5:45 p.m.

Earl Hervey, a 19-year-old black man, was stabbed to death Monday, Sept. 13, in the 11000 block of Menlo Avenue in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Hervey got into a fight with a friend at about 7:05 p.m. and was stabbed numerous times in the left leg, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died 40 minutes later, according to coroner's records.

Winter did not have any additional information about the case.

The Times has contacted investigators about the incident and will provide more details as they become available.

[Update, Oct. 5: LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Det. Scott Smith said an arrest has been made in connection with the case.

Rodney Goldson, a 44-year-old black man, was taken into custody a day after the incident and charged with one count of murder.

Smith said Hervey and Goldson were in a relationship, and a domestic dispute led to the stabbing.

Goldson is currently being held at the Men's Central Jail downtown in lieu of $1.02 million bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 14 at the Compton Superior Court.]

my deepest condolences to this young man's loved ones. what a waste! this poor young man never had a chance. how many more must die before the young point their passions toward more positive, productive, prideful ways?

I will never understand. I wish Deshon would just wake up alright and say "I am OK." . eshon is not dead to me. He will always be alive to me and well in my heart. Cant nobody take his heartbeat him or from me. Deshon, I love you-please wake up from this, please....

So he got into a fight with a friend and the so called friend stabbed him numerous times in the leg, killing him. Was the friend arrested and face any charges or was this an act of self defense. This just goes to show how knives can be lethal just like guns.

@Eye Opener, have you ever stopped to think that he might have bled to death from "numerous stabbed wounds"...as in they were untreatred and most likely very deep wounds which obviously bled uncontrollably.

lebasi-

That crossed my mind, but you would think if someone was trying to kill another person, stabbing him in the leg so they could bleed out would be pretty far down on the list of ways to kill someone.
