This might have been gang-related...He may have not been the intended target, but maybe one of the family members
I was watching ABC news and the family looks gang-related, including the mom

Hey there DEXTER,you know there's very few of us who manger to graduate and you did it with flying colors AND WE WERE SO PROUD OF YOU. its just to sad that you were taken right at the prime of your life..I'm really gonna miss you,but I make sure to keep your memory alive..Til we meet again.. It's really sad how people can be so judgemental of how one looks for the person who "MADE A COMMENT ABOUT THE TATTOO'S MARCI IS A VERY GOOD MOTHER AND SHE HAS RAISED HER KIDS TO BE KIND AND RESPECTABLE"SO DOES THAT GIVE ANOTHER MOTHER'S CHILD RIGHT TO TAKE SOMEONE ELSE CHILD NO IT DON'T.. With Love & Respect Your Friend Nena

Know that you're always in our prayers<3 who knows why your life was taken, but look at it this way, at least you won't have to suffer in this world anymore.. and for the person who made the comment about the family looking gang-related, should it really matter how a person looks? It doesn't define who they are on the inside, or the outside. That's a stereotype, anyone can have tatoos and live in Watts, but that doesn't mean they're 'ghetto', in other words. Please have the decency to focus on the bigger picture of this article.. The family just had a loss, and all you're doing is judging them by their appearance. It's quite sad knowing what your top priorities are... looks. Anyways, R.IP. Manuel, we love and miss you. "Gone, but never forgotten"<3

This house they were at seems to be a death house. Not only were two people gunned down here on June 18th, but only three months prior, Jose Cardona was also gunned down in front of this residence.

I knew this family from Flournoy Elm in Watts. I gives me great grief to hear about Manuel, he had a heart of gold, his mother was always at the school checking on her babies, not because they were in trouble but because thats what mothers do, she was at every play or performance they had. Please don't judge how this family looks because looks are decieving, this mother has overcome soooo many obsticales and to get Manuel to a place where he was goin to graduate high school, boy I am so proud to have known him. For this mother to keep on fighting when the world has not always been kind to her is amazing. You have my condolences and my respect Marci. May Manuel Rest in Peace.
