Eugene Morello, 57

Eugene Morello, 57, a white man, was taken off life support at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center at 4 p.m. Friday, May 18.

His death came 17 days after he was found beaten in the head with a hammer or similar object at a homeless encampment. Another transient found him unconscious near the railroad tracks off Sepulveda Boulevard north of Raymer Avenue in Van Nuys, and called authorities.

Morello is thought to be from Toronto, via Nevada. Van Nuys detectives are seeking information of any kind on this case. Call (818) 374-0040 during the day, or (818)374-9500 at night.
