Felix Salazar, 14
Died Dec. 23, 2010
Felix Salazar, a 14-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Dec. 23, in the 1300 block of West 106th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Deputies responded to a call regarding a gunshot victim at 12:34 a.m., according to a Sheriff's Department news release. When authorities arrived, they found Felix lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound.
Sheriff's homicide Det. Traci Gonzales, who is handling the case, said Felix was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
During the investigation, detectives learned Felix was walking east on 106th Street when he passed a four-door dark-colored sedan that was stopped in the street.
According to witness statements, as Felix walked by the car, a person fired several gunshots from the passenger side of the vehicle, which then sped away.
Gonzales said although Felix was not a documented gang member, the shooting was possibly gang-related. They did not have a description of the shooter.
Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact Det. Gonzales at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters who'd like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

So thats what all that commotion was! i was in that area (snoover land) droppin off one of my lady friends when i seen them boys out around midnite. these kids need to be in bed at midnite instead of gettin chopped down while wall banging. but oh well, r.i.p reguardless lil homie....smh

LA Times, how about a follow up to this homicide?
Was he a gangster out in the streets way past his bedtime?

this baby should have been home.

I agree, parents what was he doing out on the street at this time? If he would have been at home we would not be reading about him today. I have a daughter this age and she don't leave the house after dark unlessI give her a ride.

A child was killed and all we can say is did he deserve it and he should have been inside. Where is the humanity? Syscom, I been reading your comments, why are you not on Bigeast for his gang references? Bigeast, that is not even Hoovers, Normandie has its own sets, plus JM, Sur13, and 18th St. and who knows what else. I’m not a gang member, I live down the street, and I’m just reading the writing on the wall. We do not know the circumstances of Felix’s life, but obviously if he was out this late, he did not have the stable home that he needed. Again, he was only 14! He was a kid. I feel sad for him.

I was his 7th grade teacher- I have known him for a few years- I knew him and his circumstances/issues very well. Unfortunately the streets were somewhat of an answer to his issues according to him. R.I.P. Felix you were a good kid.... and you deserved to live.

— La Shawn Witt ... thanks for confirming what we suspected. Its a shame the dark side of life got ahold of him while he was so young. No doubt there were gang enablers in his life that made it so.
— mochaone .... why should I criticize Bigeast when hes right? At age 14, if you're out of doors at that hour, you're up to no good.

That 'snoover' comment was what you call a freudian slip (from my youth) however i have a lady friend across the street from the that school on 109th and budlong, and as i frequent that area all i see are a bunch of dirty youths with them dusty astros hats, parading around as if soap and water isnt available to the area's residents smh. however i 'do' notice that every day i pay her a visit i see the 'wall banging' takes place in that area quite frequently. BOTTOM LINE FOLKS: Banging aint for everybody, when i was involved in that life i knew it wasnt for some, yet there would always be those just like this kid that didnt have the proper guidance (or BIG homies in some cases). The BIG homies use to look out for us not send us on wall banging missions on the hottest street in the area (Normandie in this case). like i said in my earlier post r.i.p to the deceased reguardless, and to the kids who read these post heres a word of advice to all you outlaws: if you out around midnite and a car is sitting idle in the middle of the street, turn around and head the other way DO NOT PROCEED PAST THEM!!!!
This has been a BIGEAST public (non-profit) announcement (aka some GAME for the uninformed L7's)

Felix was a student in my 2nd Period class and was well-liked by his peers. He was not a troublemaker and promised to do better in class. He will be missed. RIP, Felix.

Felix was a student at the school I work at. For those that associated with Felix, knew that he defended other kids that were being bullied and tormented. He was a good kid that needed obvious guidance and attention. If anyone knew him, knows the true and difficult circumstances he was going through. We can all sit here and make all the “Should have and could have” Comments all we want, but for those growing up in the inner city understand it’s not as easy as just walking away from a situation. Of course he should not have been out late, but what kid that comes from a dysfunctional environment doesn’t stay out late? R.I.P Felix, you were a good kid.

I had Felix as a student and I agree, he was not a bad kid. He was always respectful to me and follwed my directions. It is a damn shame our community has become so jaded that we can blame a victim for a crime committed against him/her. Instead of sending our troops half way around the world to fight terrorists, we need to keep them here to fight the terrorists in our own community. R.I.P. Felix. God bless you.
