Felix Sandoval, 7

Died Jan. 8, 2010 at 10:06 p.m.

Felix Sandoval, a 7-year-old Latino, was stabbed and died Friday, Jan. 8, in the 500 block of East Pleasant Street in Long Beach, authorities said.

Long Beach police officers were called to an apartment complex where he lived about 9 p.m. Friday after reports of a woman screaming, according to a statement released by the department.

In the stairwell for the complex, officers found a 27-year-old woman with stab wounds. She pointed to a man standing in the doorway of an apartment and told officers he was killing her children, police said. After the suspect closed and locked the door, officers forced their way into the residence, where they found the boy, who had been stabbed numerous times.

He was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where he died an hour later, Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the L.A. County coroner’s office said.

His mother was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Her name was not released.

The suspect, identified as Peniamina Tomasi, 30, was booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and is being held at the Long Beach City Jail without bail, police said. Jail records show he is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.

Tomasi lived in the apartment with the woman, with whom he had two children. Each also had three children from previous relationships, and all eight were inside the residence at the time of the incident, police said.

The Department of Children and Family Services took custody of the seven unharmed children, whose ages range from 4 months to 10 years.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Long Beach police detectives at (562) 570-7244.

"M", this happens all over the world, all the time.

Why do you think this is unique to California?

I live in the midwest, and this does not happen all over the world, all the time; what a naiive thing to say. I think the sun has fried your brains.

I can't believe half of the sh1t I'm reading on this section of the site. 6 year-olds getting shot in their driveways. Kids being stabbed, left in dumpsters.

Seriously, M asked a good question. What the hell is wrong with all of you?

midwestd00d, if you read a lot of the international papers, you see this happening all the time.

Its not unique to any single country or city.

As for whats wrong with "us"? I dont know. Go look at your own urban cities and then tell us whats wrong.

Ok, this kind of thing happens in BIG cities, but it is NOT NORMAL. Thick, trigger happy eijets.
Gun control would help .... fools like Charlton Heston don't agree, so the result is the wild west and cowboys were not romantic hero's, they were pirates on horseback.

Now they're just dangerous individuals who like to get high, take money without working, cultivating a world of violence without the slightest regard for life.
These types of people are more capitalists than hippies, personally I prefer the hippie thing.

The only positive thing about this post-neo-liberal capitalist gangster type; is that they don't mess about...they're not 2 faced about it, they show their intensions straight off.
Suppose I'll be accused of being a communist now.
It's a sad state of affairs! May God protect you, he's already given you the sunshine!

Well I'll be damned!. Syscom3 finally said something on a positive note " This happens all over the world". Good job Syscom3. @ M that was a very shallow comment you made!. To the family of this little boy that lost his life; my heart goes out to you. I truly hope that the other children that were there received counseling... May you find comfort in the lord, god bless...

Yes Bless this poor baby and his family. May his soul rest in peace. Ive lived in L.A. most of my life and now live in Vegas but yep Unfortunately crazy people live everywhere, big cities and small towns alike. It is stupid to assume that a part of the county is more prone to violence or immune to it than any other part. Violence happens because we become apathetic human beings not because it's California or the Mid west.
