Fernando Guerera, a 17-year-old Latino youth, was mortally wounded by a gunshot to the head in the riverbed of the Los Angeles River near the 710 Freeway in South Gate about 3:25 a.m. Sunday, March 9.
Guerera was taken to a hospital, where he died the next day at 12:47 p.m. A witness saw several people running from the area after hearing gunshots and dialed 911. Detectives from the sheriff's homicide bureau are investigating.
