Frederick Simon, 47
Died April 30, 2011
Frederick Simon, a 47-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, April 30, in the 200 block of West 53rd Street in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Simon was the victim of a drive-by shooting, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.
He was shot about 10:40 p.m. and pronounced dead at the scene less than 20 minutes later. Coroner's records show he was shot in the head.
In an email to The Times, Rev. Robin Moreno, program director for Project Saving Grace, said Simon "had a big heart and he had the sweetest smile...There is so much to this man that a lot of his co-workers never saw, they saw the big tough guy and I saw a sweet teddy bear, cause that's what he was a sweet teddy bear that loved life and all it had to offer.
He was a man who looked towards turning 65 and retiring to the south, where he would do nothing but fish and enjoy his life," she said.
Anyone with details about the incident or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800) 222-8477.

He was a good man who had some struggles in his life, but he got himself together. He's been working at SRO Housing for over 10 years and he is the father of 4 daughters and one grandson. He dealt with the hand that life dealt him with a smile. He was proud of his daughters and loved his mom dearly. I remember him always talking about going down south to visit family and how much fun he had. His favorite past time was fishing, no matter if it was at a local place or on a boat to Catalina. He will truly be missed.

The love of my life. No one knew the Frederick Simon that I knew. We did everything together. He was my best friend in the entire world. What do you do after you lose someone you loved so much? We were together for 12 years of my life. Frederick was so kind and gentle, that is a part that he did not show too many, the loving side. He loved anything outdoors and I will cherish our fishing trips and trips to his hometown. I have so much pain in my heart right now, not only for me, but for his beautiful mother, sisters, daughters, and grandchildren. People do not know what they do when they kill. They interrupt so many lives and inflict pain and anguish. I know my Mother is looking out for you in heaven Boo. I love you Boo,
Forever Poo.

My father was a great person. He made people laugh, and he loved life. He pushed me to be the first in my family to go to college. He loved to go on father daughter dates. My dad had 4 daughters and 2 other children who looked at him as a father, 2 sisters and 3 brothers , and a wonderful mother , and a father ; who he is with in heaven. He will never be forgotten , please help my family.
