Died March 3, 2011

Gabriel Dominguez, a 2-year-old Latino boy, died Thursday, March 3, in the 26000 block of South Western Avenue in Lomita, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The boy was discovered dead inside an apartment at a Harbor Hills housing development Thursday afternoon. Homicide detectives were called because of potential signs of abuse.

As detectives investigated Gabriel's death, his mother's boyfriend was arrested on a parole violation, officials said.

Vega was living in the home at the time of the Gabriel's death, sheriff's officials said in a statement.

Two other children living in the home, a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old, were taken into protective custody by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Monday that Gabriel died of blunt abdominal trauma and his death was ruled a homicide.
