Two reader comments about Hector Jara

A beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend....We will always love you and remember you untill we meet again.

Hector was born October 13,1975. He grew up in Los Angeles and attended LeRoy Lock High School. Soon after graduating, he joined the U.S. Navy and actively served from June 1993 through August 1997. He was very proud to have served in the Navy and wanted his final resting place to be with fellow veterans.

On June 8,1996, Hector married his high school sweethart, Olga. Their children Hector Alfonso Heriberto "Ponchito" and Emma were born in 1997 and 2003. Hector loved his wife and children dearly and they loved him.

After the Navy, Hector worked for Washington Mutual bank for a few years and began working for the L.A. County DPSS in 2003. He was very proud to work for DPSS and very proud to be able to provide for his wife and children. He stood out as an employee, always smiling, dressed nicely and eager to help people in need. He did so with respect and compassion.

Hector loved boats. He had a small boat that he would take to Parris Lake and spend all day taking everyone for a ride. He dreamed of one day owning a large enough boat so that no one would have to wait to take turns. His life tragically ended on Saturday May 12,2007. He will be remembered for his caring and generosity to his family and community. We will miss seeing Him in his boat, cheering to the 49ers, dancing to James Brown and playing songs from Chalino Sanchez.

Hector is survived by his wife Olga, his children Ponchito and Emma, his mother Maria Elena, his brothers and sisters, Lety, Carmen, Martin, Silvia, Alma, Lucy, Cecy, Liliana, Miguel, Jovany and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
