Irvin Carter, 60

Irvin Carter, a 45-year-old black man, was shot at 1022 S. Muriel Ave. in East Rancho Dominguez, and died at 6:21 p.m. Sunday, June 3.

A Latino man in his 20s slashed Carter with a knife at about 5:48 p.m. on the street, then walked away. Neighbors flagged down deputies and told them to follow the suspect. The deputies tracked him down and arrested him based on information from Carter's neighbors. He was a tidy man living on disability who was very well liked in the neighborhood, investigators said. It is not known why his assailant killed him.
