Isaac Ornelas, a 30-year-old Latino, died Thursday, March 18, the day after he was shot by police several times in the 14200 block of Community Street in Panorama City, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
In an LAPD news release, officials said officers had responded to a call for service at a residence in that block about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
When officers arrived, they were directed to a detached structure at the back of the house where they encountered Ornelas armed with a semi-automatic handgun. When the suspect reached for his weapon, officers opened gunfire. Ornelas was struck in the upper torso and taken into custody.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel took Ornelas to a hospital where he died in surgery.
Ornelas was pronounced dead at 12:04 a.m., according to coroner's records.
The LAPD Force Investigation Division is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting.

So he normally carried a gun? So they were looking for a man that they knew could possibly have a gun and he was shot when he appeared to be reaching for it? There is an old saying, "live by the gun, die by the gun". I feel terrible for the people that loved him and relieved for the other people he could have hurt by carrying a gun.

This is for the easily manipulated simple minded people let's talk facts not according to... Fact one if reaching for a fire arm why was he shoot in the back?... Fact #2 fire Arm later discovers in iasacs bedroom fact #3 justice will prevail wrong doing was obviously commuted and no matter a father son ,brother, and my cousin will never be broten back so to those who think they nkow facts good luck

Isaac was a great guy who did alot for alot of people... And he was shoot in the back not once but 4 times things still don't add up... Justice!!! Will be served!!!

Look, its simple, reach for a weapon when contacted by Police and expect to get DUMPED!!! As an Officer, I too had to act in self-defense and take the life of someone who has no regard for human life.

Isaac is the sweetes, loving, hard working man with a beautiful heart and i will never forget that day .! It was a wonderful we woke up went to breakfast and then to work he was a tatto artist ... isaac tatted his name across my chest the same day .! We were walking home from work and just a few feet from his door they ran up in front of us pulled me away from holding on to him and shot him down .!!! No questions asked .!!! No he did not reach and no he didnt even try to run .! I dont who called the police or why ... But isaac was a good man who kept to him self and i just want everyone to know that isaac wasnt just killed he was robbed, takin in a few seconds in front of my eyes .! Why .? For what .? For who .? You have no idea what you have done .! Isaac was not only my boyfriend he was my bestfriend .. My everything we spent every second with eachother .! I dont understand .! Life is so beautiful so simple .! Why all this hate .! Love and peace .!!! God .!! Please .!! Befor more lives are damaged

till this day i find it very hard too belive that my dad is not on this earth with me anymore.i pray every day that one day i could be able too see my dad agin.he was a good father he was allso a very nice and honest person.all i want is for all my family too know the truth.sometimes i ask myself why not mee..but then i think my daddy is in a better place and he will alway live right here in my heart.i know sometime i feel alone but i know my daddy is right here right next too me cerring me on and ever were i go he would always be my guardian angel..our justice will be serverd.

wow i find it very hard too belive my dad is gone but he will never be forgotten all i want is for my family too get justice out of all this..i think it was very wrong if they had just wanted too stop him they could have shoot him in the arm or something but belive me we will get our justice.

my dad lived a good life in till the day he was shoot.he lived a good and happy life next too me and my brother little isaac.i was so sad the first time i heard that he was dead all i want is for my family and me and my brother too know the truth.

I love My cousin with all my heart.. How could those Polices Officer's who did this to him, sleep at night!! .. I say OffICER'SS cUZ there were more then 1. "He got shot 4times" 3in his back and once in his upper torso?!! Why so many damn times..???? sEE IF the LAPD can answer this Simple Question?? Or better yet, "WEST VALLEY DIVISION"? We all have history of good and bad. No ones perfect!! yOU took someone very special TO us all AWAY in matter of seconds. although i never really meet isaac i feel really bad about all this hapening i especially feel bad for my cosuisn i see her suffer every day without her dad let him rest in peace i know how it feels to loose some1 who is really important to you

Isaac was a good friend of mine, and i didnt find out about his death until two days ago, we had lost contact for a bit. I trusted him with my life, he was a good man and a great friend. He was there for me when no one else was. He will forever be in my heart and missed. And my prayers go out to his family and loved ones. No one should ever die like that. It hurts my heart to know how it all went down. And i know justice will be served. RIP Isaac
