Isaac Smith, a 60-year-old black man, was found dead in an alley in the 1600 block of East 10th Street about 11:56 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4. Long Beach police officers responded to a call of a dead body in an alley and discovered Smith inside a 33-gallon plastic trash can.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office took possession of the body and trash can and later reported that Smith had died from multiple stab wounds to the neck and chest. Anyone with information is asked to call Long Beach homicide Dets. David Rios or William K. Matsubara at (562) 570-7244.

Update: Long Beach police homicide detectives have arrested Ryan Philip Ross, 33. He is accused of stabbing Smith to death. Ross was arrested by Mexican authorities in Tepic, near Puerto Vallarta, the Long Beach Press Telegram reported.
