James Jones, 43

James Jones, a 43-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the 11400 block of South New Hampshire Avenue in Athens, authorities said.

Jones and another man were standing in front of a residence when they were approached by a black man who shot both of them, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene and the other man  was taken to a hospital. The suspect ran away, authorities said.
