James Ramirez, 33

Died Oct. 22, 2010

James Ramirez, a 33-year-old Latino, died in an officer-involved shooting Friday, Oct. 22, near 9th Street and Broadway in Santa Monica, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities responded to a shooting call in the rear of 1345 7th Street about 6:10 p.m., according to a Santa Monica Police Department news release. Callers said a man, later identified by officials as James Ramirez, shot a female several times and then fled on foot.

When officers arrived, they found the female victim conscious but suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and upper torso, police said. The woman told authorities her husband had shot her. She was taken to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

According to the preliminary investigation, the woman was shot while seated in her parked vehicle and subsequently attempted to escape on foot. Ramirez continued to attack her, shooting her several more times. Witnesses said Ramirez momentarily pointed the gun at himself. He then placed the gun in his waistband and ran southbound on 7th Street toward Santa Monica Boulevard, police said.

After the shooting, two officers located Ramirez as he was running northbound on 9th Street from Broadway. They ordered him to stop as he was running toward them. He refused to obey the officer’s commands, retrieved a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at them, they said. At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred, which led to Ramirez's death.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact Det. Hee Seok Ahn at (310) 458-8452, Sgt. Robert Almada at (310) 458-8486 or the Santa Monica Police Department at (310) 458-8495.

He was not a maniac. I can't explain or justify his actions. I can tell you that I knew him and along with so many others, I loved him. He was such a good person. I can't begin to imagine what pushed him to this. I pray for his little girl.

Jimmy was not a maniac. He was such a great person and always had a heart of gold. Sometimes, people are in such disbelief of what is going on in their life, they snap.
He was always a good person.. Nothing will justify what he did.. And we all pray that Ali recovers soon so that she may be able to take care of their daughter. He was not in his right state of mind.. He is going to be missed by so many.

any person who kills someone is NOT a good person.

to these friends of the fortunately departed:
lets say someone killed your friend. and then others defended the persons actions and character by saying, it was a one time thing. he just snapped.

how would you feel. would you think that person who killed your friend (because they "snapped") was a good person?

probably not. anyone who has a gun and beats some one and then shoots them is NOT A GOOD PERSON.

the world is better without this psycho path.
i pray for the victim and all those other INNOCENTs involved.

Who ever thinks that this monster was a good person I would like to share my opinion to them..,
I was actually called to the scene of the victim he had shot. I would pay anyone to dare say he was a good person after seeing what he had done to this poor girl. I can still remember her crying out bloody murder as we tried to help her. Her face uncognizable due to the fact of James shooting her in the temple, chest, and arm, her jaw mangled either from the ricashade or another bullet threw her mouth. So to say he was a good person makes me sick, thanks to him she passed away in the hospital. the whole ride to the hospital were crys and doubt of her survival. To this day i wish i could have done something to prevent it.
