Jane Doe #1

Died Jan. 4, 2012

Jane Doe #1, a female, was found dead Wednesday, Jan. 4, near the Devonshire Street exit on the northbound 405 freeway in Mission Hills, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

A fire began shortly after 10:30 a.m. near the northbound 405 freeway at Devonshire Street. After firefighters put it out, two other fires cropped up on the northbound side and were believed to have been started by sparks from the first one.

It took nearly 80 firefighters to douse the blazes, which may have started at a homeless encampment, fire officials said.

After the fires were extinguished, firefighters found the body of an adult woman, but no information was available on the victim's gender or age.

The Times has contacted investigators to obtain additional details about the case and will post an update as soon as possible.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the LAPD at (877) 527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800) 222-8477.
